Purnima 2

The Finger and the Moon

Parveen Nair1h 5mRecorded 27 August 2026

What this class works with

A satsang-only Purnima gathering, entirely talk and Q&A, with no movement practice. Parveen frames the whole teaching through the image of a finger pointing at the moon: words, and even the embodied practice itself, only point at what is already there, self-realization included, so the pointer should never be mistaken for the thing itself. He walks through why the mind's constant wanting can never be permanently satisfied by any experience, and closes with a Q&A on good and bad in the Bhagavad Gita and on the manifest and unmanifest self.

In this class

  • •Opening teaching on the paradox of using words to point at that which cannot be described
  • •Self-realization framed as recognition, not attainment: nothing has to be gained or lost
  • •The water and thirst, and coffee, examples: why the mind's wanting is never permanently quenched by any experience
  • •The embodied practice reframed as tasting brahmanandam within the movement itself, not achieving a beautiful pose or breath
  • •Closing Q&A: good and bad in the Bhagavad Gita (Arjuna, Krishna, Duryodhana), and the manifest versus unmanifest self
